Some songs have a way of waiting for the right moment to come back to life.
“Lori” began its journey in the early 1980s, written during a prolific period of songwriting with my longtime creative partner, Don Bell. “Lori” was recorded as a demo for our band Starliner. The recording captured the energy and optimism of a young band chasing big dreams, preserving a moment in time when original music was being crafted in our basements with little more than passion, determination, and a 4-track recorder.
Following a reunion performance in 2025, we found ourselves revisiting the songs that had defined our early years. Listening to the original demo of “Lori”, we were struck by how well the song had endured. Rather than reinvent it, we chose to honor it.
We rerecorded “Lori” almost exactly as it had been performed more than forty years earlier. The arrangement, the feel, and the spirit of the original recording remained intact, serving as a tribute not only to the song itself but also to the friendship and musical partnership that inspired it.
